Another poem on the porch

There’s a white death stick burning on my lips

Black coffee and nicotine in my blue veins

There’re snowy mountains in my eyes

A cold Colorado wind on my skin

There’s an acoustic guitar in my ears

A million thoughts flashing in my brain

Yesterday’s fireworks in my night

There’s a sweet love burning in my guts

Keeping me warm thousands of miles away

There’s a smile on my tired face

Thoughts of home and her and them keep me going

Through another freezing winter

There’s an invincible summer inside of me

Yes, hope is one tough candle

There’s a tickling feeling in my throat

Words that want to break free

And now there’s my whole beating heart on the page

It never left, and it never will
