Butterflies

I remember

Running through the fields, chasing butterflies

Thinking I was catching angels, believing lies

But then again, why couldn’t they be

I believed it back then, and I was... happy?

But my peers have been telling me no for a while

It’s been many moons since my last smile

Many clouds since my last sun

I can’t remember when this storm begun

Praying rain will soon be gone

While the world stares at the barrel of an empty gun

Where are my butterflies, where’s my fun

What have we done

From many dreams to none

From kid to now
